Joseph Simon asked me to write a new score for his piece Breakingscapes. It is quite a straight forward piece, mostly about dancers moving in space with specific breaking techniques. It's like an entire performance that revolves around the 'Pretzel'.
I felt like the piece had some form of satire in it. And figured I should start from a point that is quite on the nose. Sometimes extreme movements are required to reach equilibrium.

So I came out swinging, made a track based on a classic breakbeat with looped acoustic drums. There even is a little battle MC voice over in there that I recorded and pitched down. In Joseph's words, it was all a bit much. He needed more space for the dancers.

(2022) Breakingscapes Final
We went through a few iterations, no drums, some drums and ended up in a balanced place where there were some slowed down breakbeats at the right moments. The big-picture composition has remained pretty similar but the impact has completely shifted. Breakingscapes performed once with the new soundtrack at Summerdance Forever 2022.
